Starry Night Landscape

In this art project we were inspired by Vincent Van Gogh. We were learning about fore, middle, and background. To start we covered a black piece of construction paper in different colored tissue paper to create a background for our scene.  We then choose what our foreground is going to look like and cut a piece of construction to our liking. To make the designs in the background with oil pastels.

For an extension activity students could write about their landscape. They will come up with a story of what would happen at this landscape. I think students will be able to come up with very creative stories to go with them.

Hidden Safari

In this project call Hidden Safari. We drew a picture of a safari animal with cool colors and then put three different designs over the top with warm colors. Making it so you can't see the drawing anymore. Then using red film glasses that we also made in class when yo put them on you can see your cool color drawing.

An extension activity that you could do is have vocabulary words in cool colors, and we could then hang them up all over the room. I think making these would help set in the vocab words in the students mind.

The Dot

In this activity we listened to the book called The Dot by Peter Reynolds.  The story was about believing in yourself and never giving up. A student though she could create art and so she just made a dot, and didn't think it was art. Her teacher then framed it and had her sign it. She then realized that anything can be art you just have to be creative and believe in yourself. We then got to make our own dots from coffee filter. We decorated them by using watercolors and oil pastels.

Extension Activity: The students could write their sight words on them and then decorate them however they feel fit. We could then hang them up around the classroom and they could be a fun way for the students to see their sight words.
